True Blood: Queen Sophie-Ann and the Giant Egg

In anticipation of the climactic final battle with maenad Maryann, I was overly excited about "Frenzy." The episode setup good groundwork for the finale, however, it didn't really live up to all the hype. It was also a bit of a let down seeing one scene jump to another without any major developments. On the other had, there were so many revelations in this installment alone, including Hoyt's sad backstory, Sookie's cousin, Eric lusting after teacup humans, and Sookie and Lafayette both admitting to being subconsciously obsessed with the Viking vamp.

For those who have not seen the episode yet, don't go any further. But for those who have, read on and weigh in on the highlights.

Queen Sophie-Ann

While fans were looking forward to how the second to the last installment of True Blood's second season will set-up the finale, it was pretty much all about the arrival of Queen Sophie-Ann, who arguably made the best intro on the show by snacking between the legs of a girl. She's got bloodlust for women but she still gets off on watching men, and the hype surrounding her sexuality certainly did not disappoint.

How to Kill a Maenad?

We still don't know how exactly Bon Temps' fearless residents will take down Maryann but at least we now have some sort of idea as to how to defeat her. After wasting time playing Yahtzee, Queen Sophie-Ann finally revealed to Bill that maenads are stupid supernatural beings hoping to find the perfect vessel which will summon their God so that they can be ravished and devoured, literally. We also find out that the only way to beat maenads is to attack them when they are in their "frenzied" mode.

Tara's Exorcism

Who would have thought that Maryann's arrival to Bon Temps was caused by Tara's exorcism? Apparently, Tara and Miss Jeanette let loose some kind of energy that summoned Maryann. It's a bit confusing, though, since Miss Jeanette was a fake healer. Still, it's nice to know that Maryann's storyline was something that was entrenched in the ongoing mystery of the series and not just some random shallow plot added for fun or thrills.

The Giant Egg

Orgies. Hunter's souffle. Flying vampires. Eric in a woman's blouse. Black eyed naked people. I thought I've seen it all on this show but I was wrong. The penultimate episode's big reveal came in the form of... a giant egg! It's ridiculous and I don't think I can take it if some sort of monster comes out of it in the season ender.
