PSYCH: "Death Is in the Air" Review Season 4, Episode 13

Even though this episode had tons of great stuff in it, including a fun '80s cameo (Judd Nelson) and a suspenseful mystery, it might be remembered as the one where Shawn and Juliet almost became a couple, but didn't. They've been stringing us along for four seasons, but after this episode, the "will they or won't they" storyline has become a joke, (and not the good kind like when Shawn snarkily defined Axe body spray as catnip for women.) Oh well, even though we didn't get closure on the Shawn-Juliet relationship, that doesn't mean this episode was a wash. Far from it actually. I'd say this was probably the most suspenseful episode since last season's finale, "An Evening with Mr. Yang", which coincidentally featured Judd Nelson's Breakfast Club co-star, Ally Sheedy."

The mystery of the week concerned the release of a deadly virus called, "The Thornburg Virus" and if you didn't think Shawn would make a reference to the 80's TV-movie The Thornbirds as soon as he heard the name, then you haven't been paying attention. Shawn and Gus met with Donny, the courier in charge of taking a cooler of the virus to a lab. Instead of acting responsibly, Donny got drunk the night before and woke up without his gold watch and the cooler. He figured instead of calling the police, he'd get Shawn and Gus to find the cooler first, and no one would be the wiser. But then the hooker who was hired to steal the cooler from Donny wound up bleeding from her eyes and the crap hit the fan.
