You should read the books. The uncle's part isn't extremely important in them, however the back story does develop the characters a little more. The uncle did some bad, inappropriate things which Jason didn't really know about (or believe, or understand... take your pick of the three). Read the books. They're more addictive than the tv series... and there are 8 of them thus far, so you'll be busy for a little while!

You should read the books, mostly because they rock, and they help out with some of the backstories of some of the characters. However, things are different between the books and the show, so the answer to your question will be what I know from the books. The show might go in a different direction. Who knows. Sookie hates her uncle because he was innappropriate with her when she was young. He molested her and she hates him, which, duh. Hope I helped a sister out! :o)

Yeah I kinda guessed that the uncle was the inappropriate type. I think the show put it across very well and Sookie's reaction to his presence was bang on the money as responses go!

He molested Sookie and her Father's sister, Linda.Sookie's mother refused to believe her and blamed her for making up stories, allowing the abuse to continue. When Sookie's parents died and she went to live with her Gran she hid when her Uncle came to visit. When her gran asked why Sookie heard her grandmother thinking about how she suspected Bartlett had messed with Linda but couldn't prove it, Sookie knew she could tell the truth.Gran ran him off and that was the last any of them saw of him until the funeral.Jason was always fond of Bartlett and was too young to remember anything about why he went away and he was always kind of hurt about it.
