Why tv show killing off good characters?

Really my favorite people leaving every show lost it was charlie and in Angel it was Doyle. It seems all the favorites get killed :(

It's probably one of three reasons. Either the writers have run out of uses for the character or else that the death of the character will liven up the running plotline or else the actor can't/doesn't want to be on the show anymore.

CSI fired Gary Dourgan recently. I know he had some troubles with the law and all, but given the rest of these folks in Hollywood, how can they justify getting rid of him when you have so many doing all sorts of god awful things. I loved his character. He went out with a bang....gotta give them credit for that.

On Angel they got rid of doyle because he was a drug addict and they fired him. He later commited suicide...Too bad he was a wonderful actor and I loved doyle too.
Also about getting rid of charlie I agree with charleedenise all those reasons could be why they killed him off.

I think Gary Dourdan was fired because he faced nearly 4 years in jail for possession. Presumably CSI didn't want to wait for him to get out of jail. It was only a while after that he was allowed to take a drug course for so many weeks instead.
Charlie wanted off Lost on a full time basis, IIRC, but he has and will guest star occassionally.
