Try watching it in a movie theater. Of course, the effects are bound to suck if you watch it in a camcorder version. I actually enjoyed the movie. The effects were brilliant and the scenes were beautifully done. I agree that it was a bit slow at first but it quickly changed pace during the middle and last parts. I'm not a fan of the book and even though a lot of parts were cut (which makes a lot SENSE by the way since it's a MOVIE), I prefer the movie than the book. The book was kinda cheesy and surreal for me. The characters were unnatural & unreal. I found the pauses and awkwardness of Bella & Edward during the 1st parts of the movie suiting, because they just met and they're pretty confused of their unexplainable attraction to each other so I think Robert and Kristen did great. Hands down to the movie. I give it 5 stars.

i give it 5 stars too, out of 100.
go to rollingstone.com- most places say the effects were rubbish. it cost only $37 million to make the film. wot effects du think ure gonna get at that budget.
im not alone- general consensus of reviews 4 this film is dissapointing- both on sidereel, critics reviews and individual ones.

To comment on all comments, I am a 27 year old avid reader. I loved the book, and found the characters quite real. I remember when I was a teen and I had crushes and it felt overwhelming. I met the love of my life when I was 17 and still going strong. I understand the book completely. The movie had its flaws but it was far from disappointing. They did what they could with the budget they were given. The books were true works of Art and the movie reflected it. Books better than movie though.
The movie was too short, i wish they could have made certain scenes longer, but for those who didn't read the books, who were expecting a violent vampire flick, which most probably did, went in theatre with certain expectations and were disappointed. Read the books and you will be delighted with the film.
Cheers.

its obvious that the people who find the movie boring r not true romantics, i watched the movies waited for like 30mins and knew i had to watch it again, lol. the emotions in d movie r raw, amazing and strong, every single actor and actress played their part to a T. kudos to every1

i think that the movie just didn't have the funds to make it any better than they made it. i was just too far off topic of the book, and left out some of the major scenes, or inverted them untill they weren't what Stephenie wanted them to be. also i think that the main characters didn't have enough time to connect in the movie.I give the movie about 2 stars.

2 is rather generous, lol. I still maintain it was mostly bad casting. The male lead had one facial expression, and you'd have to pinch the female lead to make sure she was alive (and her "father" was worse). I haven't been a tween for a very long time, but I enjoyed what I've read of the series so far. I didn't expect the movie to be as good, but it wasn't even close. I hesitate to assign it a half star.

Loved the books; the movie was ok - only. I enjoyed watching which scenes from the book made it into the movie. But that was about it. Horrible special effects. Which is a shame for the director cuz I dig her movies. I will probably see New Moon, but if it doesn't get much better (and really there's hardly any Edward in it and damn'd if you think that chick playing Bella could carry the whole movie) I probably will wait until cable or watch it on some free site.
Such a shame because it really could have been something amazing but I think we have a series of books that don't translate well to movie.

at first i didn't like the movie, i was disappointed, but it really is romantic and i know steward acts akward and strange in the movie, but so is bella!!! i think she really has it, i loved her bella.. because in the books it's all from her point of view and she is so insecure and she couldn't show that in the movie, but by the way she talks and acts.... and well i like pattinson because he's pretty but he's not amazing, he really reminds me of david boreanaz in the first season of buffy (who isn't a great actor there either but is as pretty and mysterious as edward!). anyway, i loved the movie because of the books, otherwise i don't think i would be so obsessed...
