The Future of Televison

I don't usually do anything on this site except find the show I want to watch and watch it, but I had to start a discussion about my disappointment with modern time television. I don't know about the rest of t.v. land, but my hopes grow dim for the future of television. I have seen one show after the other go down in a blazing cloud of smoke this season, and I am growing increasingly frustrated because it seems as if they are replacing great television with mediocre. It seems to me as if no one has an original idea, and they are constantly being rewarded for it. Now, I just saw yesterday that Privileged has also been cancelled. I would like to pull my hair out, but I have grown quite attached to it, so I decided to write out my frustration here. How are you all feeling about modern television, and the future of television? I am interested to hear your thoughts.

tv-addict,I believe too that it started with the television strike, but I would even venture to say that it began even before that. It is like why even bother watching television if it is all going to be "reality" television and stupid shows with no real heart. I say that we scrap all bad television and start over, or at least give shows a second season before deciding their fate. I was mad about Lipstick Jungle too. Dirty, Sexy, Money and Big Shots I had never watched. Would you recommend watching those shows even though they have been cancelled?

I could rant on the subject of good shows being canceled. Most recently, Stargate Atlantis was canceled. I read somewhere that "they" want a younger audience. Younger than early 20s. That's a bunch of crap. Gunsmoke was on the air for 20 years. After 100 episodes they can show the re-runs on local TV. That's when the shows get canceled. Maybe not all, but many. Network executives must think that people like watching 72 channels of news 24/7, reality TV, or commercials. That's all that's on for the most part. That's why I'm on the internet. I can watch what I want, when I want, for free, with 50% or more fewer commercials. At some point no one will watch TV and the TV execs will have no jobs. Wish it would happen in my lifetime, but I think not.
