BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD “Emperor Joker” Review

Batman: The Brave and the Bold Season 2 Episode 18 - Emperor Joker!

Another great opener for BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, with a no-yellow-circle Batman and young Robin, right our of the late ’50s/early ’60s, so very Silver Age as they take on the Firefly and we get a Batman transforming his costume into rainbow-colors as well, yet another winking nod to those who get it (we do, we do!). Then, it’s the main event and storyline, “Emperor Joker” – ever so slightly based on a comics story-line from Superman in Action Comics, actually – as other-dimensional imp and Batman worshipper Bat-Mite returns. He wants to see Batman take on his number one adversary, the Joker.

But, the lil’ guy accidentally gives the Joker his powers and things truly go wacky-world. The Joker plans to kill Bats with a very Rube Goldberg-esque contraption and then tortures him, really, but offing him again and again. Until Batman turns the tables by suggesting the Joker make him mad as in insane and suddenly the Joker sees Batman as, well, normal in a way. We also get the program debut of the Joker’s female sidekick Harley Quinn, though not in her outfit as Bat-Mite at one point is dressed in it and is also taunted by a mini-me Joker.
