BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD “Plague of the Prototypes” Review

This week’s episode of BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, “Plague of the Prototypes,” was touching and ultimately sentimental, bringing a smile at the end. Again, this animated program proves to have more layers than many live-action series out there. The typical stand-alone opening found Batman teamed with DC Comics World War II hero, Sgt. Rock, go figure and we also got G.I. Robot.

In the main story, villain Black Mask finds a way to take over Batman’s Batbots, then later defeats Batman, leaving him in a tank-like Batsuit on fire. But wait, it’s “Proto” to the rescue, the child-like, hulkier protoype of the sleeker, later model Batbots. He’s a bit like Lenny in “of Mice and Men,” trying to impress father figure Batman. But he also wants to do the right thing, period, and that’s central to the tale.
