After taking some time off, Panty and Stocking have headed back to Daten
High to deal with a large outbreak of Ghosts - and it has to be said,
they're getting a little peeved that their efforts in dealing with them
aren't being rewarded with a steady supply of Heaven coins. It's almost
as though the Ghosts they've been fighting weren't the real things. To
add insult to injury, while they've been fighting they've apparently
been usurped as the school queens by a new pair who have laid down a
list of iron-clad rules for the students to live by: say hello to Scanty
and Kneesocks, the devilish duo determined to do down all the daring
deeds done by their almost-namesakes. What has possessed them to be so
daring? And just what are they after..?
After last week's little detour into near-reality, the big question about this week's edition of Panty and Stocking was whether we'd be going back to the usual crass humour, or sticking with the theme of something different - and the answer is, something in-between. The humour is still firmly in the gutter, but instead of two Ghost-of-the-segment stories, the introduction of Scanty and Kneesocks clearly brings an ongoing plot to the series - the demonic duo have a shadowy boss, detailed orders, and both the will and ability to create significant mayhem, while their clear similarities to out erstwhile 'heroines' seems deliberately designed to make you wonder if Panty and Stocking really are the good girls here. Especially as it's Scanty and Kneesocks who are the sticklers for the rules, when that should probably be the other way around.
