Beelzebub proved to be just the right mix of comedy in its first episode
that for me harkened back to shows of the 80's and early 90's with its
style and humor. With Oga now tasked to take care of the baby demon lord
Beelzbub, an eternally naked child (who is the same in the manga), his
life is only getting more complicated. But rather than focus on a
milksop of a character for the lead, it gave us the tough guy delinquent
Oga who sees himself as a good guy even as he causes trouble for a lot
of people and is a true tough guy in every sense of the word. While
Beelzebub is enough of a problem for him, one he's managed to handle all
right when you look at it, the tough part for him is the arrival of
Hilda, who has now asked to move in with Oga's family in a way that
makes it look like they're all together, especially with a baby in tow.
His parents reactions are priceless, with his mother surprised he got someone so attractive and his father claiming Beelzebub has his sons eyes. And of course, Oga's sister focuses on the fact that Hilda has quite a rack on her. The family situation is absolutely wonderfully played out as everyone's reactions are all over the map and Oga's panic over clarifying things only ups the ante. Having both Beel and Hilda living with him now adds a fun new layer to the show, especially as Beel is throwing tantrums every time Oga leaves him. And a tantrum from a baby demon lord is nothing to sneeze at in the slightest. Of course, when Furuichi learns of everything that's going on, all he's concerned about is where Hilda ended up sleeping that night. Which doesn't seem to be answered...
