The Music Never Stopped - Review

The Music Never Stopped, Julia Ormond, ... | MUSIC THERAPY Lou Taylor Pucci and Julia Ormond in The Music Never Stopped

The movie's a 1986-set drama (The Music Never Stopped) based on an Oliver Sacks case study — but unlike Awakenings, this one is sketchy and heavy on the treacle. Adapted from Sacks' ''The Last Hippie,'' it centers on Gabriel (Lou Taylor Pucci), who is left ? by a brain operation with no memory beyond 1969. He's virtually catatonic, but when he hears the Beatles or the Grateful Dead, he comes alive. Pucci lays on the wide-eyed flower-child rapture way too thick, but J.K. Simmons is touching as the straitlaced dad who embraces the '60s music he once despised. C+
