Legend of the boring

I've watched around half of the first season, hoping desperately that the show would pick up and I'd see something original or entertaining. So far it is a vapid rehash of Arthurian Legend and other better sci fi series. With none of the humor of Hercules and Xena, and the characters lacking the charisma of a Lucy Lawless etc- the show is becoming a chore to watch. This last episode was the final straw- I knew Richard's brother was destined to die the moment he appeared on screen in "Hartland." Everything is terribly predictable, and all of the Daharans are one-dimensional evildoers. The few characters that exhibit moral ambiguity (and therefore might be interesting-like the mother confessor and the wizard from "Elixir") are immediately killed off. The dialogue is wooden, and the attractive leads remain chaste save for a single kiss.

The fight scenes seem well choreographed and the special effects are above average, and Craig Horner is a major hottie. Those constitute the only high points.

A lot of people seem to like it, for whatever reason. I'm not one of them, I thought it was either predictable or nonsensical (and sometimes both) and despite the fact that they used tons of tropes that I can hardly get enough of, they just didn't manage to make them believable.
You're right, it's like Xena without the humor that made it interesting.

I like it because I read the book...sometimes I get mad at the series, like how they move in Jensen when if the seasons WERE going by the books, sho would not have appeared until the seventh season, which I doubt it would last too...

I like it because I did a study abroad in NZ, and for a country of 4 million, yea, their homegrown TV is good, but when they are ranked up against Hollywood... not so much. So, I'm just going to say it, I have a soft spot for bad Kiwi television. It's also nice to see the country that I ran around for a year. Oh, and Craig Horner = yummy.

I think it's kind of nice if you come home after a day of work and then watch a show that's all predictable and easy to understand. Don't have to think about it.But I have to say I hated the end of the first season, that's the worst "Next Season possible!!" that I've ever seen...

Right let me get this right first you say it isn't original but then you say quote "With none of the humor of Hercules and Xena, and the characters lacking the charisma of a Lucy Lawless etc-" (southwindow) that it isn't being like other shows in its genre. What is it you want originality or just to be like others shows you like.
By the way I think this is a great show easy watching great characters, good character building, great fantasy.
Love this show, what are other people's thought's

HEY GUYS WANNA KNOW SOMETHING? its a freakin fantasy show its not supposed to make "sense". its supposed to make sense to the world that they are living in, which is not our own. so excuse me if the people are so transparently evil. they want to make the sides clear so u can see when a character has crossed those lines. I have read the whole series of books and im a dedicated follower to this amazing tv screen adaption, maybe u guys need to go read the books to understand the show. im not trying to be mean im just giving my opinion. so guys really if u dnt like the show dnt watch it, its just that much easier.

This is why I wrote the review- to warn people this show sucks. The show is easy to understand, but hard to care about. (specifically at t.v.addict245) Please don't slander the Fantasy genre- there are plenty of fantasy shows where the plots are logical within their own respective worlds.(@WilliamN) Shows like Firefly or Xena or Farscape etc. they are original, well-acted, filled with humor and dramatic love stories, and multidimensional characters despite having outlandish worlds etc. I don't want to watch a show that copies the ones I've mentioned, but one that has those same qualities that make a series great.

i would never slander the fantasy world because thats where i basically live, and well this show can be complicated to some and not others and to me (because ive read the books) this series i can understand very well. this show is a great escape for me and i get defensive whenever somebody "slanders" one of my favorite shows of all time. besides u shouldnt warn people that YOU think it sucks because if u do then they might miss out on a show that they really like. just think if some one wrote a review that said Xena or Firefly or Farscape sucked and u never even watched one episode because some one u dont know said it sucked and u missed out on one of ur favorite shows? think about that. and by the way(specifically at southwindow) that was my point , that fantasy shows DO make sense in their own respective worlds. that was the point i was trying to make.

O by the way Xena is my hero!

""besides u shouldnt warn people that YOU think it sucks because if u do then they might miss out on a show that they really""t.v.addict
----Isn't the point of a review, to... er, TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU THINK?
--I like the fact that people put up their opinions on shows and the reasons why. There are SO many shows to choose from these days (on the net), that it helps you "pick a winner"
--Besides even after reading reviews I think most people at least watch an ep or two, and decide for themselves.
