How sick can you get???

Ok , I know I am not american (I'm Swiss), but this series is really borderline worrying for the state of the morals in America. first, how much drama can you take, and is still enjoyable? in the first episode, the guy kills about half a dozen of people, whilst still obviously staying "cool" with his greasy hairdo, his mother attempts to kill his ex, who overdosed whilst pregnant with her son. I mean, the son is actually the offspring of a coke-addict-baby killer mom, a murderous dad and a murderous grandmother (don't get me started on the murderous second husband of the murderous grandmother who tries to teach murderous habits to his murderous new son). I mean, where is the moral in this? the only judgement we get is that all of these beautiful people are "cool" and "living the life", and that they should perhaps "wash up the blood" to go to the hospital after having killed countless guys and had dynamite explode in a dead guy's ass, in a last and shocking scatological image. What's wrong with you people?

Actually, I think the show manages to depict violence as wrong, while the characters are likeable, if no role models. They are no heroes, they are criminals, and I would be really disappointed if they didn't behave like it.

Being that I AM a biker, I like the show. It might be a little over the top in some areas, but in others it is not too far from how life could be. My mom is a junkie whore, my dad is long gone and I raised myself in a rough and tumble environment. People like that usually band together because they dont have normal lives that most people will accept. You seek out others like you who have similar morals and ideals. The funny thing is if you ever bothered to read some of the Hells Angels diary stuff, you would probably find far worse.
I mean come on they started a brawl when they were security for a rolling Stones concert. I think it is about time they do a show like this. Everyone loves an anti hero

I registered on this site just to respond to this comment. While I agree that our American society is losing it's morality, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, THIS SHOW IS ACCURATE. To validate my self for a moment, half of my family are bikers & the other half Elitists. My dad fell for my mom who was from bikers. Ironically I ended up marrying into a biker family but my husband & I are not part of it. The life & real life DRAMA inside this lifestyle is very chaotic & constant. There's enough material to fill years of episodes just from one biker family alone. Take into account an entire Biker family (or gang of biker families). My husband & I both left our families @ 16 to avoid the inevitable chaos that comes from this lifestyle. This is just a taste of what's happened to US , not for any sympathy but to show you that it's even WORSE inside the life...My uncle & grandfather swapped a woman over a poker match, my aunt was raped by the same man who raped my mother 15 years earlier. 8 of my relatives were on house arrest at the same time, in the same house, ever woman in my family has been assaulted(not by the bikers), drug use is rampant, we adopted our oldest son from a meth junkie that was part of our "family", murder is absolutely a common part. So much that you grow up with very alert knowledge of how MANY murders must go unsolved around the country. There is an honor system (twisted to some to even use the word) but even though my husband & I are not a part of it, you till do not open your mouth about anything you know. Things are dealt with internally first. I don't know why it's ok to glorify the Mafia, the "Ghetto, the Yakuza, but they have an accurate show about bikers & you question our morality.Worry about stopping child prostitution & sex slavery around the world, not about our American show.

Ok - let me start off by saying that I do agree that the majority of shows in our country do not teach morals or values any more - our times have changed and so has our society and as sad as it is, that is the way it is. We have been riding the slide of moral decay for a long time BUT there are those parents that do a great job of teaching those things to their children. Its not up to a TV. to do that....its a parents job. NO I would not allow my child to watch this show because of the lack of morals in it but as an ADULT, knowing right from wrong and having a great moral basis I do watch it. I wish we could go back to the days of Leave It To Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, Lassie, Cosby....all the shows that did teach lessons and morals to people but we can not do that the way society is today.
Now....I love this show, I watch it as a mature adult who knows that there is a very fine line between fantasy and reality and this show seems to have a balance of both...maybe not necessarily fantasy but an over exaggeration of certain elements. I like the action in it, I like the characters...Ron Pearlman has been a favorite of mine since he did the show Beauty and The Beast. I watch T.V. as an escape from the stresses of my day - its entertainment and nothing more. While there are many truths in this show there are also things that are over exaggerated - its artistic license - it allows for a better action packed show than the mindless reality shows that are out there today (dont kill me I do like some reality shows).
I also understand that the culture in your area is completely different - people are raised differently, life is different, its two totally different world from here to there. But that is how it is, unfortunately there is no going back to change things or correct the wrongs all we can do is try to go forward from today and hope that there are better things to come. If we, as a society, kept up with the teaching we received as children then we wouldnt be in a state of "too little too late"
That said.....great parents...keep being great....crappy parents, well, step up and take charge....adults - watch this show and take it for what it is....a SHOW....and if ya dont like it press that little button on your remote labeled "channel" either up or down and you will not have to watch it!
ROCK ON SONS OF ANARCHY!!!!!!

Ok don't if you didn't like it don't watch it. Don't blast it for being to violent because guess what in Biker gangs its actually alot messier. Have you not read the history of the biker gangs in teh USA. you would find this show tame acording to some of the stuff you read. and as for the dynamite thing if that grossed you out how did you ever watch McGyver in the 80's I mean they had an italian necktie on that show and just in case you didn't know thats when you slip a guys throat vertically and pull down his tounge and wrap it around his neck. This show is awesome and I love it no holds bared life. One mroe thing what Jacks mother did I think most mothers would have done to protect thier child. They woman overdosed while pregnant talk about selfish she nearly killed the child and its her own problem if she actually took the dose that his mother left. She had a choice take it or throw it away. She took it. Her choiceI love the show. One more thing I love what Jacks did to the guy who sold his x the dope. Most guys would take it out o n the woman but Jacks knew he shouldn't and took it out on teh dealer YEAHHH

you're right, our morals are almost non existent. i still like the show because im desensitized to violence, as are most americans, but youre absolutely right. but dont worry about us too much, just read the rest of these comments, it seems most of these people are missing your point, which should tell you something... most americans are idiots. dont worry about the idiots, because you cant fix stupidity.

Just dont get it, beeing from Germany, whats all the fuzz ??
I think violence, drug abuse, promiscuity and struggeling with your inner demons is a part of this world - WE are a part of this world.
The Difference is, in our little private invironments, we might deal differently with these issues, depending how we have been raised, but the dark side is a part of every single person. It all depends if you give it a chance to take over or not.
Who are we to judge what is morally right or wrong ?
Seriously would you kill, if your family is in danger, would you steal if you dont have any money and no place to go, would you start taking drugs or alcohol if you dont see any hope for the future?
Maybe not, as you might have been very lucky to be raised by a reasonable intact family, educated in a proper school, living in save country like Switzerland. You should be thankful as you can call yourself privileged. The majority of the people on earth isnt that fortunate.
Come to Berlin, your neighbouring country Germany and see for yourself, how parts of our once called "safe" society are drifting away already into areas where the codex of moral is slipping.
A show like Sons of Anarchy is a portrait of certain parts of our society and I think its very realistic, of course a bit exaggerated, but the writing and acting is believable, its a bit dirty, its sexy and exciting.
For me the best new show at the moment.
And to sum it all up, as the great Brian Kinney always said :
JUDGE YOURSELF !

I watched this show with my wife, who was ready to go out and start a grass roots effort to pressure FX to take SoA of the air. I on the other hand love the show and would repeat what some other commenters say, which is that if you read books about outlaw bike clubs the amount and frequency of the violence depicted does not seem to be overdone if you are referencing some of the larger, well known clubs. Also I would add that if you look at the plot of Titus Andronicus it's as bad as anything I've seen in four episodes of this show.
