Gossip Girl 'It's a Wonderful Lie'

Episode Specific Spoilers

The Snowflake Ball. An event as significant to Blair Waldorf as the charity ball in Gone with the Wind is to Scarlett O'Hara. She's determined to bring the right fellow and has developed a detailed roster of possible contenders. Chuck, notably absent from the list, puts in his two cents regarding the lot. He later shows up at her home, plays a little piano, and tells her they should choose dates for each other to show who is paying attention to the other's desires. Whoever makes the best choice gets a prize: She gets his limo; He gets Dorota. Blair and Dorota (who would like to avoid serving the Chuckster in any sort of manner) scour all possible resources to find the perfect Blair-lite.

yo, serena_a, your facts are wrong.Scarlet didn't give a hoot about the charity ball. Not a lick. If she had, she would never have danced with Rhett when he won her at auction, as she was suppose to be in mourning.

Wildwintour, I was actually referring to the significance of Rhett and Scarlett's dance (and the relationship they develop thereafter) in comparison with Blair and Chuck's dance (and what I think will be the beginning of more for them). Both the ball in Gone with the Wind and the Snowflake ball in Gossip Girl are significant to these impassioned female protagonists for similar reasons. Those particular couples also share many characteristics....but that's a topic for another time. I can see how me leaving the first statment slightly ambiguous might have confused you. My apologies.

Serena_a, that makes much more sense. I was not confused but rather dumbfounded. A society event "significant" to Blair holds the same connotations as one significant to Scarlett (their obsession to pull out all the stops and arrive in impeccable, societal taste, albeit Scarlett with more décolletage) is quite the same. While the significance of these two events to their romantic arches are indeed significant––which is a nice parallel, btw–– as you said, your post lacked clarification.
