Star Gate Universes Episode 5 'Light'

So to start off last week at the end of the ep when they were going threw the gas giant I was like wow that's a cool new way to get power they must be converting it into some form of energy source that's new I have not seen that done before. If only that was true but no in this case it changed the ships directions to go into the sun right then I knew what the hole ep I am reviewing about was going to happen, yes it was the solar powered ship omg not like I couldn't see that coming.

So over all this is the worst ep of the year since any one who asks the right questions can figure out what the hell is going on rather easily. I mean if the ship was smart enough to stop in an area to give the crew a chance to get off the ship then wouldn't it be smart enough to realize that going threw the gas cloud would in fact put it on a coarse with the sun. So if you ask your self this why would the ship spend its last remaining power to send it into a sun. So if you thought maybe that it wanted to destroy its self so the tech wont fall in the wrong hands maybe you could have been right. But saying that wasn't Atlantis a far far newer city of the ancients almost out of power as well and by far newer its like I am not sure I want to spend the time putting all the 0s to say it. So shouldn't the ship have ran out of power already and if the ancients wanted to go all over the galaxy with it wouldn't they be smart enough to put in some auto system to get it more power (since as Rush said they had yet to have been to the ship.) I know I would have been banking on the solar powered ship idea.

But onto the rest of the show and how freakin boring it was I mean I am a fan of the show I really am I enjoy it, this ep was far to much cheesy romance and angst it just made me want to tear my hair out. I will keep watching it but I am now as of the last 2 eps finding my self wondering who it was that attacked the base that made them rush to the ship more than I am whats going to happen on the ship, any one els with me on that?

And omg a sling shot who would have thought of that I mean how many times has that been done before its a good show but some of the ideas on the ship could be a bit more I dunno original I as I said at the start of my post could have done with out ep and they could have done that if they used the gas giant to power the ship but nope they insisted to show of Rush can be wrong and that Eli is in fact a math genius I thought we knew that already?

I agree with you. Why the hell would the ship even bother to slow down if it were gonna commit suicide. i know they thought destiny made its first mistake after passing through all those other galaxy's ..they are so unlucky.. i hate the letters to home or whatever they are doing..i know the last 2 episodes were supposed be one but it was too long so they split it into two and filled it in with crap. i feel like they robed me of 2 hours. i cant deal.....i was really hoping the shuttle didn't make it so they could kill someone to make me feel better.. my first time wishing that on the sg side..i really want this show to be good..frustrating.

i think as we are all hardcore sg fans, we are looking for that sg magic that was contued through out sg-1. We can't expect the same magic to happen over night with such a thick plot that richard dean anderson has created. We have to remember that stargate sg-1 came straight from the film, so it was ALOT easier for the Dean to jump staright into ideas and create the characters that we grew to love. In my opinion i think there are too many characters in this one, and therefor there isn't enough time for a classic Richard Dean anderson story line in here for us to sink our teeth into. I'm really hoping that somthing is going to happen that will split the crew up or introduce a new character OR a classic Richard Dean Anderson, "Its the end of the human race" world destroying enemy is discovered (but since this is a ship that has continues course, i dont think the last one will happen). Anyways, im hoping this really does take the unexpected twist i thinking it will, and when it does ill be happy i and everyone other sg fan never gave up on

"The Dean" <--i really hope this catches on lol

I still have a strange feeling that the villain we saw will ether be the main bad guy in this series or set up a net SG-1 movie (hopping for the ladder) and we all know why there is 2 many chars cuz its not like that can have random guest stars to just kill off there is to many so they can still kill people every now and again

I disagree, I think the show is starting to pick up a little with episode five. Greer just went from insufferable to almost likeable. Young just became a real person. And I think I'm finally starting to understand Rush (self-loathing over something in his past makes him intensely uncomfortable with people liking and/or trusting him, so he does his damndest to avoid that - notice the freaked out reaction to Young's friendly "well done" clap on the back, and all the indications that while Rush might have had a vague suspicion, no way did he *know* the Destiny would pull through, so he's faking it there in the end, I'm sure of it).
As for the Destiny flying into the star on purpose being predictable, well, no it wasn't. Not to me. The explanation was that the ship had drained itself dry trying to keep them alive through all their mistakes, and that it had no power left to maneuver with. Plausible enough, as whatever smart failsafes the Ancients might have left in place would require *power* and the ship has been abandoned for so long. And for a ship to fly through the corona of a star in order to replenish its power supplies? That's certainly a novel idea to me. It's a freaking *star* - according to all the rules of pop culture physics (hah), the Destiny should have been liquified. So no, I did not see that coming, and I wasn't all that happy with it, to be honest. I also thought the lottery was more than a little contrived.
But the characterisation is starting to come along. The only major character I still can't stand is that Armstrong chick. I'd like her to die a slow and grisly death. What an utterly obnoxious character. If she doesn't become more sympathetic pronto, then just *liking* her will reflect negatively on characters like Scott and Eli. Either give her some substance, or toss her out the airlock already.

Agreed. Rush didn't 'know' and I'll be really cheesed off if they make him the 'uber-baddie' with an ulterior motive.
This was the first episode I actually felt any emotion at all towards the characters - but they've got to ditch the girl. Pronto.

If any of the readers and viewers are also Star Trek fans then you'll see that this series is just a poor attempt at recreating Star Trek Voyager. I mean come on. Major Disaster happens that strands everyone thousand of miles away from home and now they spend the rest of the series trying to figure out how to get home.

Heh, using that kind of logic, you might as well say that Voyager was just a poor attempt at recreating Lost in Space.
Not that SGU isn't hopelessly derivative, because omigod. There's a little bit of everything in there: Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Lost... why not Star Trek as well? I think we should probably give up on originality right now, and just hope that the show develops some SG style charm by the end of season 1.

<<<Rush didn't 'know' and I'll be really cheesed off if they make him the 'uber-baddie' with an ulterior motive.>>>
If they do *that*, they deserve to get smallpox. Nah, Rush will just be the morally ambiguous excentric who often saves the day, but is too creepy to trust. He'll probably choose results over human lives a lot, and get everybody pissed off at him. But he won't be the villain.
Camile Wray will be Universe's "IOA", and that's as close as we'll get to an actual villain on board, except for one or two unimportant malcontents. Our ubber-baddie will come from outside. Once they sort out their issues with the ship and just surviving on it, they'll run into their version of the Goa'uld/Ori/Wraith/Borg(heh), and probably around that time, they'll also pick up a couple of friendly aliens. (Teal'c, Tayla, Ronon, Neelix, Kes, heehee).
And then they'll be searching for a power source juiced enough to let them dial Earth.
We know the drill by now.

I biggest problem is that there is not 'big bad' as of yet I don't mind these eps every now and again I just figured they should have combined light and Darkness which could have easily been done with out so much of the retarded suspense.
Oh ok the flying threw the sun that was a little wow ok that was kind of shocking but the fact that the ship is powered by the sun was what I ment I mean I thought the ship was going to kiss the sun not fly threw it but I still saw where the ep was going to end up
