'Rules of Engagement': Sony Comedy Sold in Off-Network Syndication

Sony Pictures Television has sold the CBS comedy Rules of Engagement to local broadcast stations in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago in an off-network syndication deal.

Rules was sold to WPIX-TV New York (Tribune), KCAL9 Los Angeles (CBS) and WCIU-TV Chicago (Weigel), with station groups including Belo and Meredity also buying the series.

"The show’s compatibility with The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, combined with its strong, consistent performance on CBS among male viewers has been a major enticement to local stations" said SPT president of U.S. distribution John Weiser, who made the announcement Friday. "It’s a win, win for buyers because the show repeats better than any comedy on television."

Financial terms of the deal were not available.
