‘America’s Got Talent’ Week 5, Night 2: TV Recap

Unlike the show’s previous stops in Atlanta and New York, America’s Got Talent inexplicably declined to reveal where they set up shop for last night’s auditions. Fan-made signs indicated they at least passed through Charlotte, NC and Houston, TX, but perhaps those cities didn’t quite have enough talent to earn their own designated episode. And indeed, proceedings started out on a rough note (literally) before settling into a surprisingly consistent series of bona fide, Vegas-bound discoveries.

Although they claimed they prepared for five years for their audition, judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel were unimpressed when duo Christio and Eric performed a decidedly tone-deaf rendition of “Waterfalls.” A handful of underwhelming auditions followed, including Jenny Rocha and the Painted Ladies, who wore inflatable behinds and shook them fiercely to Peaches & Herb’s “Shake Your Groove Thing,” and The Magic of Mystique, whose dime-store magic routine was second in awfulness only to the stage make-up he no doubt applied himself. While Chris the Boy with the Wire Hair also failed to make it to the next round, at least there was a semblance of originality in his routine: he was literally strung up by his hair and spun around in circles while juggling.
