'Modern Family's' best comedy series contenders in Emmy race

The ABC show will continue its strategy of entering its regular players for the judges to choose from. 

Last year "Modern Family" won major Emmy Awards for comedy series, comedy supporting actor (Eric Stonestreet) and comedy writing (Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd for the pilot episode). Looking back through Emmy history, just a few freshman shows have won best comedy -- "30 Rock," "Arrested Development," "Frasier," "The Cosby Show," "The Golden Girls" and "Cheers."

For the second season, "Modern Family" will continue its strategy of submitting all of its regular players (Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O'Neill and Stonestreet) in the supporting categories. Last year, five of them were nominated, with only O'Neill missing the cut.
