Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s R-rated comedies ruled the roost, with films likeAnimal House and Porky's cleaning up at the box office, but then comedies turned safe – and let's face it – a bit boring, and profitable 'mature' comedies dropped off the map. 

But ever since The Hangover proved that adult comedies could make money again back in 2009, taking nearly $500m at the global box office, Hollywood has sought to repeat the trick in a bid to rake in some of that cashola for themselves.
