First Performers Announced for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards

Billboard is reporting that Lil Wayne, Adele, and Chris Brown have been tapped as the first performers for this year's Video Music Awards, which are set to air on August 28th. Both Adele and Brown received numerous nominations when they were announced recently (for "Rolling in the Deep" and "Look at Me Now", respectively), with Wayne's performance serving as a springboard for his highly anticipated The Carter IV.

A tribute to Amy Winehouse also seems to be in the minds of producers, but there's nothing definitive to report as of right now. Considering her passing was less than a week ago, it's conceivable for a fitting tribute to materialize sometime in the next month, especially when more performers are announced. The last VMA tribute was, of course, after the untimely passing of Michael Jackson, which saw Janet Jackson triumphantly taking the stage to perform with her brother, via video, one last time.
