‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’: Review Revue

The reboot of the "Planet of the Apes" franchise under British director Rupert Wyatt stars James Franco as scientist Will Rodman, an Alzheimer’s disease researcher who uses apes as test subjects. The 120-minute "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" reveals how Rodman’s experiments on the aptly-named ape, Caesar, played in motion capture technology by Andy Serkis, help jump-start an eventual planet-wide takeover by a new breed of simian overlords.

The movie also stars John Lithgow, Tom Felton and Freida Pinto.

The franchise was put on hold after director Tim Burton’s visually-stimulating 2001 version of the 1968 classic. There are indications that if the newest origin story film performs well at the box office, another round of sequels could be in the works.
