THE PROTECTOR “Bangs” Review

THE PROTECTOR "Bangs" Season 1, Episode 7 – It’s probably not a good sign when the most memorable part of an hour long drama such as "The Protector" ends up being the location at which the murder took place in the first five minutes. Seriously, whatever Malibu dream house they used for filming…I want to live there. Maybe if I start saving my pennies now…

Okay, in all fairness, it wasn’t a bad episode, but it wasn’t particularly memorable either. I’ve seen murders in the world of high-end salons, I’ve seen murder victims with multiple sex partners and I’ve seen jealous siblings kill each other. Put all three of these things together and you’ve just summed up the plot to "Bangs."

I guess I was expecting a show with such a strong title to have an equally strong premise, at least stronger than "a single mother/intuitive cop solves crimes with her logical, down-to-earth partner in Los Angeles." That being said, I have to confess that I did find myself liking Gloria Sheppard (Aly Walker). She’s got her fair share of that quirkiness which all main character cops are required to possess these days (think Monk without the OCD or Gil Grissom without the Aspberger’s Syndrome), but she’s not over-the-top. In fact, she’s balanced out quite nicely by her partner Michelle (Tisha Campbell-Martin). They make a believable, if not totally dynamic team. Read More...
