I'll admit that I wasn't a huge fan of the original DTB, but I do think it had an interesting concept, and I have to say I was a bit let down by the second season. I think Gemini of the Meteor is a perfect example of what I'll call a People Pleaser, Movie Teaser. Basically, when a show is really popular, and, even though it should be over, the writers somehow manage to pull a new plot out of their ass. Even though I wasn't a huge fan to begin with, I'm a bit bitter.
First of all, we're introduced to a totally new main character, a girl named Suou Pavlichenko, and we're expected to like her almost right away. Fine whatever, because they spend quite a bit of time developing her, which is good because otherwise everyone would hate her right away and see her merely as an Yin replacement. Why? Because Suou eventually ends up in the care (relative term) of Hei after he supposedly kills her father. And she falls for him. What female in the DTB series hasn't? Only, Hei isn't exactly as we remember. For one, his hygene seems to have died. Two, he's now an alchoholic that makes us long for the days when he'd pack away 12 main courses in one sitting. Anyways, Suou manages to find the warm heart behind the cold hands and falls for him later on in the series, making her a bit more likeable. Stockholm syndrome much?
