‘American Horror Story,’ Season 1, Episode 3, ‘Murder House’: TV Recap

We dig a little deeper into the house’s history tonight, while we get some more clarity on klepto Constance’s violent past with Moira. The Harmons don’t get any closer to ditching their macabre manse, but Ben loses a potentially home-wrecking "burden" in a most violent way.

This episode opens in 1983. Young Moira is busy working when the man of the house starts coming on to her. What begins as harassment quickly escalates into rape, but the attack is interrupted by a younger-looking Constance packing heat. She shoots Moira through the eye (I guess that explains why the older Moira’s eye is discolored). Then she turns the gun on the man, apparently her husband, and shoots him repeatedly.

Back in the present day, Ben is letting Vivien in on a big secret. No, not that he impregnated his former lover, Hayden, and took her to get an abortion. Rather, it’s that their broker lost a lot of their money in the market and they’ve lost the financial flexibility to sell the house. Vivien doesn’t care.
