‘The Good Wife,’ Season 3, Episode 5, ‘Marthas and Caitlins’: TV Recap

Consider “Marthas and Caitlins” a pause in the series, an episode more concerned with regrouping characters and establishing priorities than pushing the action forward. It will take a while to get to the events behind that odd title, but when we do, there will be sharp lessons for Alicia. And the producers also have some fun bringing back incarcerated wife murderer Colin Sweeney (Dylan Baker) and casting Democratic strategist Donna Brazile as herself.

The court case involves a plane crash that left 40 people dead. With Alicia representing the passengers, and Will’s old girlfriend Celeste representing crew members, the suit hangs on a witness who will testify that the plane was flying with faulty parts. But then the whistleblower commits suicide. Oh well, says Celeste, this might be “a good thing,” since the guy’s testimony was shaky and “it’s hard to examine a corpse.” (Celeste is starting to grow on me.) As luck would have it, though, wacky wife killer Colin Sweeney, who was the financier on Hammet Aerospace’s IPO, apparently also knew about the plane’s de-icing problem. Read More...
