‘The Descendants’: Review Revue

"The Descendants" is Alexander Payne’s first directorial effort in seven years, since "Sideways." It stars George Clooney as Matt King, a real-estate heir and father of two girls who must wrestle with his wife’s critical condition following a boating accident.

It’s a different role for Clooney, who typically plays the handsome and charismatic leading man. His understated performance is garnering early best actor Oscar buzz, in a year when he has also directed another film, "The Ides of March." Clooney stars with young actresses Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller in "The Descendants," as well as Matthew Lillard, Beau Bridges, Judy Greer, Nick Krause and Robert Forster.

The 1 hour, 55-minute film was shot in Hawaii and written by Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, based upon a book by Kaui Hart Hemmings. See reviews of "The Descendants" below.
