‘American Horror Story,’ Season 1, Episode 8, ‘Rubber Man’: TV Recap

Another week, another mystery revealed. This time we learn just who it is behind the rubber mask of that murderous S&M freak plaguing the inhabitants of the Murder House. And it’s…revealed in the first scene.

We start off “six months ago,” right when the Harmons are buying the place. We see Nora Montgomery wandering around, distraught and confused at what’s been done to the house. She doesn’t seem to know she’s a ghost. Someone grasps her shoulder, offering comfort. We don’t see his face, nor does Nora, but she tells that her baby would comfort her. Cut ahead to the scene in the first episode where Vivien is having sex with the Rubber Man. After they finish, we see him take off his mask. It’s Tate. This certainly complicates his relationship with Violet, doesn’t it?

We’re back in the “present day,” and Vivien is explaining to Moira and Marcy the Realtor about how she met Nora Montgomery. Marcy mocks her on the way out to see Mr. Eskandarian to move the sale of the house along, but she’s bound to be disappointed. Vivien’s “ghost story” resonates with Moira, however, who suggests there are powers and presences beyond the physical world. Read More...
