‘Bored to Death’ May Be Cancelled, But It’s Not Dead


A line of Jason Schwartzman doppelgangers wrapped around Hoyt Street last night, where writer Jonathan Ames was holding a gathering for fans of “Bored to Death,” the HBO series cancelled earlier this week.

The bar – Brooklyn Inn – was mobbed with hundreds of Ames’s friends and admirers, plus a sizable contingency of reporters, many of whom also fell into those camps. For the hardcore “Bored” fan, there were a number of celebrity sightings: cartoonist Dean Haspiel, on whom Zach Galifianakis’ role was based; a cult character with a significant role in the “plushies” episode, who Ames made a point of pointing out; and John Hodgman, the author and actor who played a literary critic on the series.
