angels

ok, m just gonna come out and say this, after watching the heaven and hell episode, which was phenomenal by the way, i have got to say the angels r not getting it easy from the writers. they make them seem like mindless, murdering, boring robots who just follow orders n have no thots of their own. i think this is wrong cos God gives all of his creatures free will to be with him or not and they are happy in his service. i think hell has a better PR officer(lol), who tells us hey we have evil inside us and being evil is us just being our true selves lol. of course the angels r saying the exact reverse that all humans r good as we were made 4rm pure goodness.

plus all this angel falling to earth, turning human, taking back her grace n returning to being an angel, m sorry i didn't buy it, was wayyyyyyyyyyyy too far fetched for me. if that was the case why don't d angels just take leave from work? yeah!!!!!!!!!.

they'ld be like oh castiel m tired will u keep my grace 4 me while i travel down to earth for my summer holiday, there's this nice looking hunk i've been wa8ing to bone all these 100yrs, c y'all when i get back, i promise to give u all the sordid details 4rm a human's body pov. lol lol lol lol lol.

To be honest, this is more common than you would think, not to mention if you look closely into the biblical angel stories, they are simply carrying out the will of god and don't seem to have much emotion. The "love" is from the father (god).
Now I can admit that only 4 seeing the face of god was a bit strange, but then again I never heard different (though I never did that much searching).
I wonder what 4...Michael Lucifer... ???
Angels becoming human I have also heard of, although that was in dogma, and when their wings get cut off.. also the Fallen Tv movie series I think.

If I'm not mistaken there are exactly 4 arch angels... so perhaps they've seen God, the others haven't.
And the idea of fallen angels is not new at all, even in the movies there's plenty of them, look at City of Angels ;-)

Hrm, Well I would have a hard time believing Lucifer never saw his face so...
Lucifer(not arch I believe) Michael Gabriel... I thought Uriel was an Arch, also there is... Raphael?(note: I'm not a religious person but I find this topic pretty interesting, but it is more of a fantasy interest for me, ex: many people find vampire topics interesting).
So if it wasn't Lucifer and was the Archs, I guess it would be Michael Gabriel Uriel and Raphael?

@goofydude101 and sunny2007sunnyi mean d concept of a fallen angel being able to just pull out and take back their grace at will, i mean if it was so angels wold be having holidays from work, lol.plus in heaven God is no longer a mystery to us anymore, the bible is filled with angels being in the presence of God and we(catholics) do pray to guardian and arch angels to take our prayers to God, and lay them at his feet. m sure d story there was for the purpose of tv as m sure the writers r not tryna interprete the bible verbatim.m just saying that d concept of anna's situation is too far gone beyond the concept. capish? lol

Ok so it's been awhile since I read the Bible, but if I remember right. There are four angels who cover god's face with their wings. I can't remember the number, but I think it is four. Anyways, that part I think is pretty nifty.

@dale Seraphim or something like that right?
@brownfox However, I cannot remember one story in the Bible giving an instance of an angel looking upon the face of god, so maybe you could speed me up?

All this talk about how an angel could just ditch their grace for a few days then come back seems like a misinterpretation. From the sounds of it, if an angel abandons their grace, they would lose the support of god, even once they became an angel again. So it's probably not something they would do on a whim, since it would basically mean losing all their friends/allies in heaven.
And as I see it, the angels don't seem so much like mindless robots to me, just people who know that they're not allowed to disobey. Castiel and Uriel both seem to have their own thoughts on god's orders. Uriel seems like he'd like to kill sam and dean if he could, but knows that god won't let him. Castiel also seems to regret alot of god's orders.
As to the angelic "ranks" I don't know if it's going to be like this in supernatural, but arch-angel is actually supposed to be the second lowest rank. It goes angel, arch-angel, cherubim, seraphim.

yeah, I agree that just because you follow orders does not mean you dont have a mind of your own, and deep down you agree with it. I think what is shocking is the fact that Castiel and Uriel act more like the mafia (especially Uriel) than the perfectly angelic creatures we have been lead to believe they are. I think we should look behind their human facade and its clearer. As for the grace thing, very unreal especially the misplacing it and retriving it part, but then again, God is very forgiving of humans so hy not his angels?

@Stago
Thats part of the reason why in so many depictions of angels they are jealous(Im not sure thats the right word becuase it suggests a sin and i cant picture them actually commiting a sin) of humans beacuse we have Gods uncondictional love and he is willing to forgive us whereas they must work for it and he is appartly not as forgiving to them. take the film constantine for example, Gabriel said that the reason angels don't like people is because we have Gods love when we are not worthy of it.
I don't think that they wouls just loose their grace for a few days however beacuse to them that is not an option, Try and imagine suggesting it to one of them they just dont think like that and also remember that they probably would be punsihed for it. (lucifer is a fallen angel who was banished from heaven and so he forged hell)
I quite like the addition of angels to the show beacuse it just seems right to show a light side of all the evil after so long, But i didnt like Anna all that much... I dont know why, She served her purpose in my mind by helping dean to move forward through the trama that'd happened to him an admit it to his brother, so she was good in that sence, but the recent rumors that she'll be returning to the show have me on edge because I dont want to see her and Dean try and start something... went a little off topic there sorry.
Back on topic. I like the depiction of Uriel and Castiel as worriors they show the different sides to angels Uriel being the hard warrior and Castiel being the slightly more caring kind. An angels alwasy were warriors and messengers in the bible. As for the four angels who have seen Gods face It is possible they could be the four arch angels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael and Uriel. However there were originally seven arch angles in the bible.
p.s. I love how Uriel is actually an Arch angel, do you think they incorpoirate that into the show? Is that what they meant by specialist? after all Uriel is the angel of repentance. He "stands at the Gate of Eden with a fiery sword,"or "watches over thunder and terror." he is also said to be as pitiless as any demon. ... fits doesnt it.

@TaneshR u kidding me? Archangel is the second lowest rank? I think you should do a little more research there.
Michael the ARCHANGEL is the commander of the Armies of Heaven. He is the highest angel

Also angels wouldn't just rip their grace out and go on vacation for 2 reasons.
1, they forget who they are. I mean if it wasn't for Pamela Anna never would have remember.2. Once an Angel falls, they have a death sentence on their head. "It's their murder 1"

actually zfountas, Tanesh is right, yes Michael was ranked high but that is because nost of the other ranks did not interfere with man. He is one of the 7 Archangels. This are the ranks of angels. Archangel are nothing compared to seraphim's or cherubs. They are important and most likely the trumpet blowers and bringers of the 3 woes but they will never see the face of god
here are the ranksFirst Sphere:SeraphimCherubimThrones
Second Sphere:DominionsVirtuesPowers
Third SpherePrincipalitiesArchangelsAngels
