TV Ratings: ABC edges out CBS; The CW comes on strong with 'The Vampire Diaries'


Fast national ratings for Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012ABC's original programming is back in full swing after a winter break, but Thursday's line-up only barely managed to top CBS' strong slate of reruns. Still, a win is a win and ABC deserves credit for drawing the most viewers with the return of "Wipeout," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice."The numbers were close, though. ABC drew 9.5 million viewers 6.0 rating/9 share in households while CBS was close behind with 9.3 million viewers (5.8/9). After a steep drop off, FOX followed with 4.5 million viewers (3.0/5). The CW (2.6 million, 1.8/3) in a minor coup managed to top NBC (2.3 million, 1.5/2) with the return of "The Vampire Diaries." ABC also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 3.3 rating, finishing ahead of CBS' 2.3. FOX and The CW tied at 1.1 while NBC finished last with 0.8....
