'American Idol': Ethan James is great despite song choice

"American Idol" found a fun country-rock singer in Ethan James, who is a member of St. Louis-area band the Well Hungarians. He sang Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" and he did a wonderful job, despite picking one of the most overdone songs on "Idol" (see also: "At Last" and the one about being a prison guard's son).As HitFix Dan tweets, "Pitch: In a post-apocalyptic future, reality contestants who sing "I'll Be" are hunted and killed for sport."Anyway. The judges were highly complimentary of James, despite his having blood running down his face from a cut he scratched open because he was so nervous. It was kind of a hot mess of an audition, so thank goodness he can really sing....
