‘Downton Abbey,’ Season 2, Episode 5: TV Recap


For those of you were distracted by some football game, here’s what you missed on "Downton Abbey."

War is over! It’s November 1918 and World War I has come to a close, but not without taking its toll on the residents of Downton Abbey both above and below stairs.

But first, remember the very first episode, when the heir apparent, Patrick Crawley, was killed on the Titanic? Now six years later, a wounded Canadian offer, Major Patrick Gordon, arrives at Downton to rehabilitate. He tells Lady Edith that he’s actually Patrick Crawley. He tells her that he was pulled out of the wreckage with amnesia and was misidentified. His face is covered with horrific burns and bandages, making him unrecognizable, but he says the explosion brought back his memories of who he was.

Edith tells the family Patrick’s story, but they are much more hesitant to believe him. Mary is particularly angry. Edith, though, had been in love with Patrick and is quick to take the wounded officer’s side. Read More...
