‘Luck,’ Season 1, Episode 3, TV Recap

 

This week “Luck” continues taking its time building narrative momentum while fleshing out its characters and putting them in prime position for some serious developments to come. Renzo and the other track rats aren’t finished trying to buy the horse they lost in the claims race, while Walter witnesses an ominous sign that forces him to reconsider who’ll jockey his prize bay, Gettin’ Up Morning, in its first race. And Ace, of course, continues to float just outside the action at the track as he prepares to make his big move.

Again, we see Ace meeting with his parole officer (Barry Shabaka Henley), this time at a gym, which is empty other than Ace. Why is it empty? “Arrangements were made.” I don’t think we’ve seen the full range of Ace’s power and influence yet, but this is yet another hint. He seems like a tough character, but he’s also cool and charming, and it clearly rubs off on those around him, even his parole officer. Read More...
