Russell Brand to Host 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Comedian and actor Russell Brand will be emceeing the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Having hosted the network's Video Music Awards multiple times, Brand's no stranger to MTV audiences, so the hosting selection makes sense. His VMA hosting duties included an infamous "diss" toward The Jonas Brothers and their purity rings, as well as particularly pointed comments about politics, which can only bring about buzz for  the Movie Awards. That sense of anything goes unpredictability hasn't always been a part of the Movie Awards and if you want unpredictable banter, you go for Russell Brand.

Brand becomes the latest in a long line of comedians to host the MTV Movie Awards, ranging from the dry humor of Dennis Miller to the goofiness of Mike Myers and duos like Justin Timberlake and Seann William Scott. Last year, Saturday Night Live cast member Jason Sudeikis hosted the latest Twilight domination, the third consecutive first time host.
