House, Scrubs or both?

If there was a battle between the two lead characters from House and Scrubs I think it would be no contest who would win, JD would be crying in the corner while House would be popping pills and riding his motorcycle away from his easy victory.

Although, these two never will colloid (unless you count the episode of scrubs in which Dr. cox becomes house for a few mere seconds) so we will only leave that to imagination. The real question is, can these shows play along together?

I had a friend of mine say that he did not watch my favorite show House because he was a fan of scrubs and they where "Rival shows" this did not make sense to me because they where so radically different, when thinking into it, can we really deem these shows different? Lets take a look.

They are both dramatic comedies.

They both have a main egotistical asshole character.

They both have a moral character.

They both take place in hospitals.

They both have somewhat evil superior bosses.

They both focus on the characters lives as much or more than the medical question.

Of course there are more things similar between the shows, but thats my list and for now I am sticking to it.

Now some would say, thats it! It's solved, they are too alike, you can't like both, you have to pick one! I am here to say that is so completely untrue, as any true watcher of both shows will tell you, the shows are so completely different that there should be no competition between the shows.

One huge difference is the mood in each show, scrubs is a more sarcastic show that is filled with silly flashbacks, it's a true sitcom. House on the other hand is a more serious show, although House is a very funny show at times it's real trait is the amount of drama in the show and the overall quality of general entertainment in the show. With Scrubs you find your self continually snickering at the cleverness of the show and at times feeling quite emotionally invested with the show, feeling for the characters. House on the other hand you find yourself engulfed in drama of the show, feeling for the characters and in a very CSI style hoping to try to figure out the case (although let's face it.. how many times has that happened?), but also at times you find yourself laughing out loud at the situation and comments found it House.

Overall, there are definitely some similarities between house and scrubs but the overall feel of the programs are different, this may cause some people that love one show to hate the other. There is and should be no rivalry between the two shows, if one believes that there is it is because they haven't truly experienced the other. I personally am current on both shows and love them both, I think everyone should enjoy each to the level of their personality, do not let good shows conflict.

Now, what do you guy's think? Am I dead wrong, or am I right, or sort of right and wrong?

I think this is so true. Scrubs is mainly based on the characters relationship with each other (and sometimes the patient) but we don't often hear things that are completley medically relevant. Whereas in House, the show is based on the medicine and diagnostics, , and like scrubs, the development of the characters relationships with each other. I've grown to enjoy House more, as I prefer drama (and house also has a lot of humor in it, due to houses sarcasm). I enjoy both shows, but I find that I get more attatched to Houses character, this relationships and his work.
I completley agree with you on all the points you touched on, scrubs and House aren't rivals, they are just 2 very different versions of show based on everyday hospital life, and there should be no competition, becuase at the end of the day, people watch what they want to watch.

Yea Scrubs and House, even with the similarities, are totally different. Scrubs revolves around the character's personal lives and patient-doctor interaction rather than the actual medical stuff. It is also pretty light-hearted. House is a bit more serious and the main part of the plot is usually the diagnosis, even though they do go into people's (mostly House's) personal life. So yea you can't compare the two and I personally love both, maybe House a bit more now because its more my type of humor.

I think you're right, there should be no rivalry, each person should watch what he likes and what he enjoys best.
Personaly I loooooovvvvveee House, it's a genious show, it's written so so good, fantastic stories and of course, Hugh Lourie is one of the most talented actors around.About Scubs, I think it's pretty silly, something to see when there's nothing to watch, you don't actually look forward or expect for it to come on. like house does make you, or me.=)

Scrubs and House are both awesome, but the only real similarity is that they're both medical shows, there shouldn't be any rivalry between two great shows that are completely different.

I have a doctor friend who says that Scrubs is a lot more realistic of what happens in hospitals, aside from the odd characters and incessant sleeping around. Who put JD against House, anyway? It should be Dr. Cox against House. Dr. Cox in an easy win. He's a lot more physical than House, and a LOT more narcissistic.

Yeah I think they are both very good and have their ways of getting the viewers interested. I think of course because scrubs is more comedy and house is more drama that maybe they would appeal in different ways. But of course they are both amazing shows, who could decide?

scrubs is much better...its become just as big as seinfeld was and will be on the re-run trail on tons of channels for years to come while house will only be on USA network after its conclusion.
