Little-known fun fact: "The Amazing Spider-Man" isn't just a triumph of action cinema, a special-effects laden visual wow-fest, a super-hero flick of epic proportions. It's also a very nifty handbook for the trials and tribulations of the New York City dating scene. Which is why, when MTV News' Josh Horowitz sat down for an After Hours chat with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, he got all the dirty details from them on how to spide-ify your love life. Beginning, of course, with gaining entry to your crush's abode by lurking on the fire escape.
"I felt sexy doing that!" Andrew exclaimed. "I felt that was better than the front door."
And Emma, who's Andrew's girlfriend both on-screen and off, agreed; after growing up on classic Nickelodeon show "Clarissa Explains It All," she's a wholehearted proponent of the hi-I'm-at-your-window approach to friendship pioneered by Clarissa's friend Sam.
"He really didn't have any regard for the fact that she could be, like, naked or something," she mused. "I do like a man who'll just show up on your fire escape."
But a word of warning: Don't take all your dating pointers direct from "The Amazing Spider-Man." Even the star of the film admitted that the whole "secret photography" thing, which seemed like a sweet and legit means of expressing affection during filming, didn't exactly translate as hoped.
"That moment has not been represented properly," he said. "When I watched the movie, I was like, that looks creepy as hell."
And finally, it had to be asked: "My spidey sense is tingling" is just, like, superhero jargon for having a boner, right? Uh...right?
"It's not every time," Andrew said, indignantly. But on the other hand, said Emma, "You can see everything in that suit. And his spidey senses are tingling most of the time that he's in the spidey suit, right? So..."
So... So yeah, it's obviously time to go watch the movie, keeping our eyes on the spandex-covered spidey prize for evidence of, y'know, tingling. Thanks for the tip, Emma.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" swings into theaters July 3.
