The Amazing Spider-Man Leaps to the Top of the Box Office

As temperatures across the country hang out in the triple digits, Americans are heading to the air-conditioned sanctuary of the local multiplex — great news for the box office. Not surprisingly, The Amazing Spider-Man came in first with $65 million for the weekend, while Seth MacFarlane's raunchy Ted remains strong in its second week, on target to beat The Hangover as the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Further down the list, Oliver Stone's drug lord drama Savages exceeded expectations, while Katy Perry: Part of Me's $10 million opener put the docu-film on track to make back the $12 million it cost to produce.
