'White Collar': Neal Reveals Fundamental Details About His Past

A big reveal about Neal's past only served to add more layers to his already rich characterization on the latest episode of "White Collar" (Mon., 9 p.m. ET on USA). Fans learned that Neal grew up in witness protection, under the false assumption that his father had died as a hero.

The truth was that his father had killed a police officer, prompting the family's shift into witness protection. Neal didn't even know his real name until he was 18 years old.

He tragically said that he'd grown up wanting to follow in his father's footsteps, based on his misconception of who his father was.

"In a way, I guess I did," Neal said. "I’m a criminal.”

But now he has a new mission: to determine if his father really was a murderer. So much of Neil's ambition and identity is wrapped up in his perceptions of his father, it will be interesting to see if solving this case will fundamentally change who he sees himself as.

The investigation continues on "White Collar," Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on USA.
