Christina Hendricks On Joan's Most Controversial Moment

When Joan (Christina Hendricks) agreed to go in on a "business deal" to seal the Jaguar deal for Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce that involved prostitution, "Mad Men" fans were outraged.

But Joan's actions had raised eyebrows before. What was it about this particular incident that caused fans to turn their backs on her?

"She would say things to Peggy, or to Paul, or do things that you wouldn’t necessarily approve of, but I think people could be, like, 'Well, sometimes I do bitchy things too,'" Hendricks said in an interview with The Daily Beast. "They do identify with her, and so this is maybe a step too far for them?"

While Joan may have crossed the line, Hendricks is the first to shed light on the times and point out how little power women had in the '60s.

"It’s not fair to compare the situation to 2012, but people can’t help it because that’s where we live," Hendricks continued. "And that’s what we do, and that’s who we are. We get emotional, thinking, 'I would never do that. I can’t believe it.' Well, you would never do it now."

Fans can be as anti-Joan as they want, but her character isn't going anywhere. According to THR, Hendricks is in talks for a two-year "Mad Men" deal that would keep her with the series through Season 7.

Two more seasons of Joan? One can only imagine what she'll do next.
