BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: "PILOT" REVIEW

Well, ladies? How brave is it? Are you, say, brave enough to fall in love with a large, attractive muscular man who's totally devoted to you and available 24/7? Do you have that kind of courage? Because if not, there's the door, missy!

Hoo boy.

Back in '87, CBS ran a show starring Linda Hamilton (The Terminator) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), which was a modern take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. Hamilton played Catherine, an ADA who, due to a traumatic incident, develops an empathetic bond with a "beast"-type man named Vincent (Perlman) who lives down in the tunnels underneath Manhattan. Perlman had the full-on prosthetics going, giving him a lion-dude quality and allowing the story to truly be about Cat falling for Vincent's inner beauty. Anyhow, it wasn't that great. It lasted for three seasons, the last of which didn't even have Hamilton. But whatever your opinion of the series, you'd probably agree (if you're old enough) that it was memorable. If for no other reason than there weren't a lot of shows on TV back then outside of CBS, NBC and ABC and this one starred a guy with extensive lion make-up and Sarah Connor. Read More...
