'Walking Dead' Season 4: Scott Gimple confirmed as showrunner for 16 episode season

With five episodes left to air in Season 3 of "The Walking Dead," AMC has announced that production on Season 4 is set to begin May 6 and officially confirmed Scott M. Gimple as the new showrunner.Gimple was widely known to be the choice to replace departing showrunner Glen Mazzara, but the network had not officially confirmed his role until today.Just like Season 3, Season 4 has received a 16 episode order and is expected to premiere in October 2013.Gimple has been a part of the show's writing staff since Season 2 and has been credited with key episodes including Season 2's midseason finale "Pretty Much Dead Already" (with the reveal of walker Sophia) and Season 3's "Hounded" (which brought together the separate Woodbury and prison storylines).
