'Southland,' 'Doctor Who' and 'Girls' earn Peabody Awards

Whether "Southland" gets another season on TNT is up in the air at the moment, but the drama series has at last received some awards recognition."Southland" is one of 39 honorees at the 72nd annual Peabody Awards, which honors excellence in broadcasting. The Peabody jury praises the show for its characters, "whose personalities have become more nuanced by the season," and says the show is "as convincing as a cop drama gets."Per usual, the awards went to an eclectic mix of scripted series, documentaries and news programs. Other series earning Peabodys for 2013 are "Doctor Who" ("for evolving with technology and the times like nothing else in the known television universe"), "Louie," "Switched at Birth" and "Girls."
