The nominations for the 81st annual Academy Awards are in and to be honest not to surprising. The group behind the noms are getting to be pretty predictable. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button brought in 13 nominations to lead all other films.

Yeah, I wasn't surprised either. Movies like The Dark Knight don't stand a chance in categories other than mostly technical awards. I was very happy though to see that Heath Ledger was nominated - and today being the first anniversary of his death. If he receives the Oscar, I hope it's not a sympathy vote. He should receive it because he's THAT good, and he deserves it. The Dark Knight got 8 nominations which is great, but, I would have loved to see a best picture / best director nomination as well.

I finally got to seeing Gran Torino this weekend and I am sorry to say that if it was any other year in recent times that it absolutely would have made the cut for noms for Best Picture/Director/Actor for Eastwood. In fact, I'd throw out Benjamin Button and throw in Torino if things were up to me. Button was certainly an enjoyable film...but I completely disagree with it snagging the most nominations. It wasn't that good...
