disappointed

I was actually really disappointed with the season premiere.

To begin with, i was extremely annoyed by the way they portrayed what brooke and lucas's relationship would have been like if he chose her. They made brooke look like she wasnt really in love with lucas but he was just convenient for her. They also made her look like a controlling feminist which i thought was extremely unfair. Yeah, brooke is definitely independent, but she never treated lucas like trash like they made her look. I think they just needed to make it look like peyton was perfect for him and brooke wasnt...when it really wasnt true or realistic.

Secondly, everything peyton did the entire episode was completely out of character. Yes, i know she's extremely happy to be with lucas and i know she is completely in love with him...but she was always slightly cynical and thats the peyton we know and love..its like she lost herself when she found lucas.

Thirdly, the justification lucas gave for whisking her off to get married in vegas the line 'i know im being selfish by marrying you like this but with you peyton i want to be selfish'. It was again completely out of character for him, and i dont know if it was the way chad michael murray acted it or the line itself but i just didnt believe it. it didnt really seem all the sincere. Its like both lucas and peyton need to be different people in order to be perfect and happy together...and that means that they really arent perfect for each other.

Fourth, skills and deb...noooooooooo!!!!! deb is gross!! skills can do soooo much better!! i could see them hooking up the one night when they found out who their internet 'friend' was but after that...its just a disaster! Im looking forward to the drama when nathan finds out...but other than that, its a complete turn off.

fifth, the nanny carrie and dan thing. I was enjoying it in the beginning...but when i found out she hadkidnapped him and taken him captive in some remote house in the middle of nowhere...it just seemed a little bit too far fetched. it seemed more like a last ditch effort for the writers to keep dan in the show without making him boring a old grandpa to jamie who regrets all his mistakes and wants to make things right.

and finally, where is karen? (lucas's mom) and his little sister and the cute australian boyfriend andy?? the old lucas...the one who doesnt have to change to be with peyton, would have wanted his family to be there with him at his wedding. I could have believed it if it had been peyton's idea to go off and get married in vegas but it would never have been lucas's idea. the writers just needed something dramatic to close last season...i think it would've been better if it had been a declaration of love rather than a proposal of marriage in vegas. some like 'hi, its me, i love you, i never stopped, its you i want to be with now and forever...' It could've been him calling and of the three with that line. and rather than do it over the phone, i think it would have been better if he's said it in person...he rings a doorbell, all three girls open the door and he says the line and the season ends without us knowing which girl it was...that would've been more realistic...

That being said there were some things that were pretty good. I really enjoyed the brooke and her mother war beginning. although i do feel bad for what brooke had to go through i think that story line is bound to be interesting...and i do love that nathan and haley are getting along and being the perfect couple they always were. and jamie is being as cute and adorable as ever. and personally, im glad mouth left the show. he's character was played out...i hope he's not completely gone and comes back for a couple of epsiodes here and there...but i couldnt see him having anything interesting going on this season...

I agree with you on your first point. Their portrayal of Brooke was completely unfair, with her buying her own flowers etc. It made her look completely shallow and selfish, when we all know she is not like that. Unless that was Lucas' view of how his marriage to Brooke would be, which would be allowed to be inaccurate. However, if that was supposed to be a true reflection, I think it was wrong. Brooke is better than that.
As for the whole Lucas calling Peyton and asking her to marry him, I think tbh it was neccessary. We have seen Lucas say I love you to so many people over the whole of the series. So much so, it has sort of become meaningless. So marrying her showed how serious he was. It was a symbol of his commitment for her, that he'd finally chosen the woman he loved.
Overall, I thought it was a really good episode. Better than the whole of season five! I just hope they keep it up... and that Brooke is okay!!!!

Having read all of this I have made the decision to not watch the premier nor season 6 at all. When I began watching One tree hill I absolutely loved it. I loved the characters and how meaningful every episode was, with a message hidden in every single one. It seemed perfect. And then comes season 4 and things change. The focus is on Peyton, she becomes the protagonist with everybody else appearing once and again. However I still watched it and enjoyed it. I believed things had to become better. But they never did.Theres comes season 5 and with it my utter dissapointment. I felt like something was lost along the way. There was no longer any meaning in the whole tv show deeper than the main plot. And the characters... Although I still loved Brooke, Peyton in my opinion was a bit OTT. It was okay for her to be so down and emo throughout her high school years, but at the age of 23? I felt like the whole season she was just crying for Lucas, and honestly, that is a very weak plot and not entertaining. She lost her personality. I always thought she was a very strong character, however in season 5 she seemed weak. She has no strength, she just had her obsession with Lucas. Also, I always preferred Brooke and Lucas together. I loved their relationship and thought it was beautiful. So when the focus went on him and Peyton instead, it was naturally a letdown. Now, seeing how all the characters are weakening, and as you say, StrawberryCutie, changing to adjust to their new roles, I think i should leave it at this to not get even more dissapointed.I think that season 3 was the peak of one tree hill, but then they went downhill, and to be absolutely honest, it seems to me that season 5 and 6 and any that comes next is merely business. They are trying to make money out of something that had finished. And that is the explanation for the weakness of the plot.I must say that the only reason I ever watched the whole season 5 was Brooke. Her character remained charming and interesting, as im sure she will also be in this next season, however i do not want to ruin my own opinion of the whole show anymore.Ill end on season 3, which was perfect, and beautiful. That is where things end for me.
