True Blood's 10 Most Exciting (& Most Frustrating) Cliffhanger Endings To Date!

You may never be able to guess what's really on Bill's mind, who will end up in a pile of their own blood next, or what kind of idiotic things will come up in conversation with Jason Stackhouse, but If there's one thing about True Blood that remains consistent, it's the show's signature cliffhanger endings. Of course, if you've read the books, you may have a pretty good idea of what's to come, but even then, Alan Ball's creation is susceptible to plenty of unexpected twists and turns.

Looking back, some of the episodes' abrupt closers don't seem nearly as devastating as they were at the time (you see, after a few episodes, finding dead bodies is no longer a surprise), but each new episode has that knack for sucking you in and leaving you hanging right at the most excruciating moment. And as much as you may shake your fist at your TV and say you hate hate HATE cliffhangers with the intensity of a hundred vials of V, you know you love it... because it's just so bloody good. So without further ado, here are what we consider to be the 10 most exciting/frustrating cliffhanger episode endings that made us want to renounce the show altogether and start planning our next viewing party.

1. Strange Love (Season 1, Episode 1)

After getting beaten to a pulp by a couple of V smugglers, Sookie is left for dead in the woods. Naturally, as the main character, we know nothing serious can come of this abrupt and dramatic ending, but it certainly set the tone of "WTF?" endings for the entire series to come!

2. Sparks Fly Out (Season 1, Episode 5)

Sookie arrives home after a long, traumatizing day and before she can kick back and relax, she slips on a pile of blood in her entryway. Gross! Cut to a shot of bloody, dead Gran, then Sookie's look of complete shock. This cliffhanger is so abrupt, Sookie doesn't even have time to unleash one of her signature blood-curdling screams!

3. Burning House of Love (Season 1, Episode 7)

Sookie rolls up to the vampire house to see that it's been completely torched (in the daytime, might I add, making escape impossible for its inhabitants!). If that sight isn't ominous enough, a frantic Sookie spies four charred coffins. Oh no! Has Bill met his maker, for real this time? Not likely, but it's a terrorizing thought that haunted us until episode 8!

4. Plaisir D'Amour (Season 1, Episode 9)

Sookie goes to bed, comforted by the presence of Dean, Merlotte's friendly English Shepherd. She wakes up to a naked Sam on the bed instead. WTF, LOL. Of course, we know what's up, but that was just about the most awesome way for Sookie to discover his secret, and we couldn't wait to see it unfold!

5. To Love is to Bury (Season 1, Episode 11)

The first season's murder mystery had been unfolding at an excruciatingly slow pace that's just starting to pick up. So who's this Drew Marshall guy? Let's print up a picture of him at the police station, shall we? Okay, great. Wait a second... wait! Is that RENE?! Please episode, don't end, please, this is getting really good... RENE IS DREW MARSHAL?! Ahhhh!! Holy-- *Roll credits.*

6. You'll Be the Death of Me (Season 1, Episode 12)

It's the end of the season 1 finale. Drew Marshall (aka Rene) has been offed, Bill is no longer burnt to a crisp, and the whole town is safe. Or so we thought; the season ends on a shot of a corpse's dark-skinned foot complete with painted toenails. LAFAYETTE?! No! Say it ain't so!

7. Hard-Hearted Hannah (Season 2, Episode 6)

Maryann's ill-intentions for Sam are revealed when Daphne lures him to one of the maenad's Bacchanalian pow-wows in the woods. Sam is held captive while a sacrificial knife is presented to do him in. This is worse than we thought! Will he escape? Probably, but we sure as hell won't find out this episode!

8. Timebomb (Season 2, Episode 8)

A peaceful party at Godric's house suddenly gets infinitely more serious when Luke (from the Fellowship) barges in and opens his trench to reveal a chain-encased bomb strapped to his body. In other words, total vampire (and self) destruction. After a quick close-up of his finger pressing down on the red detonator button, the scene cuts to credits.

9. Beyond Here Lies Nothin (Season 2, Episode 12)

Unanswered marriage proposals are just about the most common of TV cliffhangers ever, but the season 2 finale put a new spin on the to-be-continued classic. As Sookie excuses herself to collect her thoughts, we watch in horror as Bill is strangled with a silver chain and carried off. The season ends as Sookie returns to the empty room declaring "Yes!" ...and then becomes thoroughly confused.

10. Beautifully Broken (Season 3, Episode 2)

While the 3rd season's premiere ending was uncharacteristically not too suspenseful (we knew Bill would kick some werewolf butt), the 2nd episode jumped right back into its cliffhanger ways as Sookie aims and fires a gun... at either Eric, the mysterious werewolf (Alcide?!), or perhaps narrowly missing both.
