Gone, Heigl, Gone?

Is Katherine Heigl dead to the producers of Grey's Anatomy?

Maybe.

Latest buzz hissing from the set of the ABC hit is that creator Shonda Rhimes may be entertaining the idea of killing off Heigl's Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens because of the now infamous remarks Heigl made about the upcoming Emmys.

Lest you forget, Heigl took herself out of the running for this year's Emmy race because she felt the writers failed to give her enough good material to work with last season.

"It's not good there," a source tells me of the Grey's Anatomy set. "Shonda is pissed. They're thinking of killing her off. They want Izzie dead."

While a dead Izzie may never happen, it would be an ironic twist, because industry insiders have long speculated that Heigl wants to ditch the show.

Going public with her Emmy complaint only increased speculation that she wants out of her contract to focus on her red-hot film career. Heigl may have picked up an Emmy last year, but since then she's become a box-office golden girl with flicks like Knocked Up and 27 Dresses.

A rep for Rhimes said, "I haven't heard anything about that." Reps for Heigl and ABC declined to comment.

So now it's your turn: Do you think it's time for Izzie to go to the great emergency room in the sky? Does Heigl have what it takes to leave television behind for the movies? Leave your comments below.

If they kill Katherine Heigl off I will seriously stop watching. Doesn't ANYBODY remember the lesson learned from the OC killing off Mischa? It turned to CRAP and all the characters ever did was mope around...!!!

izzie is the best character in this show. I will be sad to see her killed off. I dont mind if she makes an exit any other way cos at least she could return for specials and one offs. I hope they keep her character. Everyone else's are just too depressing, Izzie is the fun one!

I think this whole situation is ridiculous. The writers are mad at her? OK, sure, having her put their writing skills down in public, sure, I can see how they would be upset - but to kill of her character because of being pissed off? Are we in kindergarten?
Instead of talking about killing off a popular character, maybe they could focus on actually writing better stories - because although it wasn't very kind to put down the writers' work in a very public way, anyone who has been watching the show since the beginning knows that Heigl was right on the money with that she said.
but that's just my two cents. :P

Could it be that Heigle made that comment on purpose in order to get the producers to release her from her contract?
While I have enjoyed Izzie Stevens and she can be quite entertaining at times I was not at all impressed with the Denny storyline, especially when she practically kills him. Who does that?? Seriously! Then she had to go and ruin Georges marriage, but she's finally getting passed all that so I don't want her to leave. However, I would hardly say that she is the best character in the show, I mean Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson could run circles around her!
And I'm just going to put this out there cause I feel like it, I don't think McDreamy is all that dreamy! He's boring and frankly I don't think he's very attractive at all. Not to say that he's ugly, but he's no George Clooney (who was ironically also a tv doctor) but a little old for Grey's Anatomy unfortunately.

I like Izzie and I would hate to see her go but honestly, Im getting really sick of Katherine Heigl! I mean she didnt have to pull herself out of the Emmys she could have just left it but she was sh!t stirring. Its just because shes done a few movies that did well! I think shes gotten too cocky and it would serve her right to get kicked off the show! That said I would miss Izzie......!

Izzie used to be one of my favorite characters on the show but after the first season I wasn't so crazy about her. I think that if she doesn't like the show anymore and they don't like her then it may be time for her to move on. I wouldn't miss her character.

I have to agree with Heigel herself on this, I think she didn't get the kind of writing she deserves. No one on the show did. Not sure if it was the strike or just a lack of creativity, but we need to get the old characters back, especially Izzie. The poor girl spent an entire episode saving a freaking deer, for goodness sake! That has to be an all-time career low. ABC really needs to get their stuff together on this one or they're going to lose this show. Izzie should stay, but she really needs some better stuff to do.

I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. i mean i totally agree with what heigl said about her character not getting enough to be nominated. She had almost nothing going on all season and i feel it was a waste of her character on the show as well as her talent as an actress. I also have to admit that i do admire her as a person with integrity for saying how she really felt, actors rarely do that and she's been vocal about other issues before this too. That being said, i dont agree with her attitude. Since she started doing well as an actress she does seem less interested in the show which got her there in the first place...and thats kinda disappointing.

whenever there are issues with an actor on the show, and the possibility of an exit, there are two situations: the actor leaving the show, and the character leaving the show. For example, I am SO glad that Isaiah Washington left the show because he was quite obviously creating issues, being appalling, etc etc. however....i miss Burke. I'll say it! I miss him. I really like Hahn, but it's not the same. And I think that his absence as a character affected the show as a whole, leaving all characters, especially Izzie, without much to work with.I think to lose Izzie would mean that it's twice as hard to make the show good. You will always have fans of her character, and of the actress, and to remove her from the show would probably make it completely impossible for the show to recover. But I also think that the cast change into season four was what took the show's quality down in the first place. Just some thoughts. And I also agree with toddyboy and StrawBerry.
