True Blood Wardrobe Rings True

I have heard a lot of discussion about the wardrobe choices for True Blood. (mostly that night gown Sookie lost her virginity in..or rather..out of) I thought I might put in my two cents.

First off, I think the wardrobe choices are brilliant. Has anyone ever seen Sookie wear anything that doesn't contain the color white? Uniform...white, Bikini...white, Summer dresses...white, Night gown...white, Tank tops...white. Thats because her clothes are making a subliminal statement suggesting that she is pure. This is an easy and classic way to make the point that Sookie is a virgin. Her clothes contain youthful, bold, and bright splashes of color which suggest that she is young, naive, and hopeful. Even the funeral outfit Sookie wore contained some white. Im looking forward to watching the dark colors progress now that she has lost her virginity and it seems that she is losing her naivety as well (what with all the deaths shes witnessed).

Secondly everyone's wardrobe matches their characters perfectly. Bill is stuck in the civil war era with his wide collared shirts and jackets. Amy is clearly a child of Gaia in her earth mother clothes and hippy head bands. Each piece seems to be chosen with thought and intent and even though some of those messages may be subliminal, I think the ideas are conveyed accurately. Wardrobe is such an important part of any show and True Blood is certainly not lacking in this category.

Lafayette's clothing is also very expressive of his character

Sookie in that black PVC after the Vampire disgorged all that blood onto her then poped! That was pretty dark and very unsookie!
Great points about the clothes. I too think there is a lot of thought in the characters wardrobe. Sam and his nice wholesome flanel or plaid or whatever it is! lol!
I think the aesthetics of the show are pretty great and do a real nice job of conjuring up to my mind what the southern united states might be like. ( I know, I know, lots of you think they don't get this right but to a non American it looks pretty good to me!)
