The man behind the red curtain

The question on everyone's mind is who is the man behind John Jones. Our Martian Man-hunter was working for someone, and logic would dictate he was a member of the DC universe. this leaves but two options; either he was a member of the JSA or he is another very salient DC character. The easiest answer would of course be Hawkman, not only is he a JSA member and thus aware of checkmate and their somewhat nefarious tendencies, but he is also played by an established silver screen actor with a scifi history. He also posses an established history of organizational ability in that he assembled the first league, but there is another DC character who would be far more interesting as a mastermind or even 'black knight'.

Not only does he posses a preexisting lore with fighting this particular government sponsored wackjob, but he also has the money, the clout and the pure hero badassness to pull this off. I personally have been wondering where he has been for about five seasons now and if 'he' has finally appeared we know that we are about an episode away from the red and blue. My issue is are we ready for Batman when Superman can't even fly, this is why I reluctantly suspect Hawkman or another JSA character.

They have made mention of Gothem, but i dont see at any point of the smallville series ever bringing in Batman. Maybe at the end with a TV movie "Metropolis"

I hope they bring in Batman seeing as that he is such a major character in the superman comics and that all the Green Arrow stuff was supposed to be Batman. Plus I think that it would make sence is the greatest detective.
Also massaho, it can't be another marsian because j'onn is the last one (unless you count white martians, but they are just savage and they hate green martians)

I think it would be an interesting twist if it turned out that the one pulling the strings was actually Martha Kent. She is a US senator so there is a good chance that if she wanted to she could find out about some sort of government plan like Checkmate and since Clark is an alien she might keep an eye out for anything related to it. She is someone who would obviously do anything to protect Clark and with her making an appearance soon it could fit the story. The whole cloak and dagger routine could be something she picked up in D.C.
