Midseason Mania: Top 10 Lost Mysteries for the New Season - Featured

Every season of Lost brings in some new mysterious elements, and every season leaves us hanging with some big mysteries we can only hope to get the hint of answers to in the next season! But for this new season premiering tonight (HOORAY!), the creators have promised us some satisfaction, so let's take a look at the biggest mysteries we were left with at the end of last season that fall in our top 10 mysteries for which we're dying to get some answers!

10. What did Sawyer need Kate to do for him when she got back?

One theory was that Sawyer had a daughter he wanted Kate to take care of, but why would Kate keep that so secret from Jack? With Jack needing to convince Kate to go back, Kate running off somewhere with Aaron because some guys in suits are after her, I have to think somehow what she's doing for Sawyer will come up.

9. Why is Walt so special?

Walt used to seem like the main point of interest to why they all ended up on the island, but if that was the case, why was he allowed to go back? Did he serve his purpose? Is he still influencing the island happenings somehow since he left?

8. Is Michael really dead?

Harold Perrineau who plays Michael will be busy with his new show, The Unusuals, but that may not mean we never see Michael this season, and it doesn't mean that just because the freighter blew up while he was on it that he died... right? It's seeming more the point of all this time-shifting that things have to change, so will this mean those who might be dead don't end up dying with changes to time? Or is dead dead if Michael was indeed killed?

7. What is going on with Claire?

Is she alive? Is she crazy? Is she being controlled by "Jacob?" Last we saw her, she abandoned Aaron to hang out in the dark in Jacob's cabin and be all creepy. So will those left on the island find her? And what state will she be in and why?

6. Is Jin really dead?

Like Michael, it was shown that Jin (probably) died on that freighter and now Sun is after revenge, but did he really die? I'm still convinced his tombstone could be a cover-up... and also like Michael, if Jin died or not on the freighter, could he come back if time is changed?

5. Who is Charlotte?

What's her history with the island? We found out last season that she's "returning" to the island somehow. Was she part of the Dharma Initiative who left before Ben took everyone out? Is she back to discover her past or to discover what happened to Dharma or something else entirely?

4. How and why did Locke die?

One of the biggest mysteries of last season's finale that we finally got the answer to right at the end was who was in that coffin?? We found out it was Locke who was there to tell the Oceanic 6 they had to go back. So what happened and why?

3. What is Ben's purpose?

One purpose is to get revenge on Charles Widmore by taking a daughter's life for a daughter's life, but clearly with Ben's time traveling, or whatever it is, he has many more missions in his life. So who is Ben, what is his main objective, and who is he answering to?

2. Where did the island go when Ben moved it?

Remember that weird Narnia moment with the giant crank and flashing lights? That was a little odd, but the fact that the helicopter losties saw the island disappear was pretty amazing. So Ben, where'd you hide it?

1. Why do they have to go back?

Now that is the biggest question of all this season! So what needs to change so badly or what went so terribly wrong because they left? And if Ben and Jack can get everyone to go back, how are they going to get back to the island?

Thoughts? Theories? Other mysteries you're dying to know more about this season? Comment away!

All great questions. I am excited beyond all reason for this evening!
As an addition to #2, I want to know not just where it went but how exactly the island can just pack up and move!
Another one I have is what's the deal with the eyeliner dude (Dr. Alpert) that doesn't age?!

I'd just like to mention...in the season finale (I think it was the finale anyway) when Sun is having her baby Jin is running around in what we believe is the same city, buying a panda, trying to (we assume) get to her before the baby is born, as the screen goes back and forth between them. Then he shows up at the hospital, she has the baby, the nurse asks him if he wants to come in, and we find out he got the panda for some high-up official...and seems to have no memory of Sun at all. This seems to lend credence to Jin not being dead.....somehow...and somehow not on the island either.

Sorry to disappoint you believers, but I don't think there ARE answers...Past experience with J.J. Abrahms shows (like Alias) proved that he doesn't have a "master plan". They just solve mystery with another mystery and hope we'll never notice... Even when they do "solve" things, the answer usually does not make sense.
And writerssblock - the Jin panda shopping scenes were a flash-back to when he was working for Sun's father.
