Why, Top Chef, why?? I have officially, well, 90% officially, decided Top Chef is a total set-up to have one hated contestant in the finals for the sake of the conflict and drama.
This is an outrage, people! I almost wish I had been wise enough to quit watching after Season 2 with the complete ridiculousness of Marcel making it to the finals vs. Ilan over the amazing and talented Sam and Elia!
Hm, how strange that the guy no one liked ends up in the final vs. his biggest nemesis in the house.
I think my faith was a bit restored in Season 3 which still put a disliked contestant in the finals, but Hung was so talented, he actually deserved to be there... unlike someone I know, cough, cough, Marcel and now Lisa!!
Really, Top Chef, really?? We've all been shocked for many weeks now as chefs keep going home over Lisa, and completely shocked when she actually made it to the final 4 last week! But, yes, Spike majorly screwed up, so it almost made sense.
I was stressing out the whole episode last night for Stephanie as she discovered her "sous chef," Dale, had left the pork belly out all night making it unusable, but luckily, Steph and Dale are geniuses and pulled the challenge off really well with a new dish.
And were we worried about Antonia? Well, yeah a little because she seemed off her game, but were we worried when we started hearing about her peas being underdone? Yeah, not so much.
After the challenge came off pretty well for all four contestants, we got the relief that Richard and Stephanie were on top, which got Richard the win and a new car!
Then we got the nail-biting judges table moments for the bottom two, Lisa and Antonia. So let's see... Antonia was a little off, put her three dishes on one plate, and undercooked her peas.
Lisa had almost no one gathered around her table while everyone else had crowds, and the judges claimed her dishes as not quite showing her style since she went Latin American instead of her strength of Asian.
Is it just me or is this the most obvious choice ever for who's going home?? Oh wait, it's not just me - it's 91% of viewers!! (Who texted in to vote on who should go home, anyway.) So how is it that Lisa would get 91% of the votes for being expected to get cut, while Antonia got 5% for very good reason, yet she went home??
Ridiculous. Way to make it so very clear, Top Chef, that you're just looking for a dramatic finale. People are still going to watch, and are maybe even more likely to watch, if they like everyone in the finale. Yes, that tension between Richard and Steph vs. Lisa in the finale looks dramalicious, but it's really not worth it.
And wow, Lisa, wow. I know you feel unloved by your fellow chefs (and viewers), but after they've seen one of their good friends on the show go home who really deserved to stay, how can you possibly think it's a good idea to tell them it would be nice to get a little congrats?
Lisa, you feel like they're acting like the wrong person went home because the wrong person did go home.
Ah, yes, this is pretty harsh on Lisa, but it's just so ridiculous that someone who's been in the bottom for weeks and weeks could keep sliding by for who knows what reason beyond keeping the conflict alive through the finale.
I guess they could use the defense that the show's meant to be judged by each challenge individually, but she's never done well on any challenges overall or individually, so I believe our arguments against Lisa still stand pretty strong here.
Now, with this final three of Richard, Stephanie, and Lisa, it really should be the real contest between this week's top two, but will it be with all Lisa's "luck," or whatever we should call it here?
